Skincare

Skincare is important because our skin acts as a barrier against environmental factors, regulates temperature, and plays a crucial role in overall health. Effective skincare can help prevent issues like acne, dryness, and signs of aging. However, skincare is not one size fits all. Individual skin types, concerns, and lifestyles all vary greatly. What works for one person may not be the right routine for another. Customizing a skincare routine to address specific needs ensures the best results.

Comedogenic Ingredients

When treating acne, first and foremost – it is important to avoid products that contain comedogenic ingredients. Just because a product says “non-comedogenic” doesn't necessarily mean that's true. The FDA does not regulate the term "non-comedogenic". This means that there is no real definition of what counts as non-comedogenic in the skincare world, and there is no way to know if a product is truly non-comedogenic without checking for ourselves. There is also no standardized method of measuring a product's comedogenic potential.
Some prescription products like the cream form of Retin-A or Tretinoin, as well as many over-the-counter acne medications can also contain comedogenic ingredients. “Oil-free” products may also be formulated with comedogenic ingredients.

Below is a list of comedogenic ingredients. We recommend avoiding these ingredients in your skincare, as well as hair care, especially if acne tends to pop up on your forehead.

    What to do about it

Remember, it must be the exact ingredient in order to be comedogenic.
We recommend downloading the “Acne-Safe” App on the App Store to easily check whether a product is comedogenic or not.
